North Kingstown PD kicks off Christmas package program to deter porch pirates

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – ‘Tis the season of lowly porch pirates.

North Kingstown Police Department kicked off an annual program on Wednesday to deter those Christmas scrooges to make sure your presents end up in the right hands.

“We have residents who can get their presents delivered here to the station to add an extra layer of protection… we’ve seen a rising number of porch pirate cases,” said NK patrol officer Raymond Ho.

Ho said since 2017, the department has investigated nearly 40 porch pirate cases, but that’s just the ones that have been reported- so officers assume it’s higher.

And it’s very easy to do. Residents are encouraged to send their package and C/O their name to:

North Kingstown Police Department
8166 Post Road
North Kingstown, RI 02852

To pick it up, just check in with the records clerk and bring your ID. There’s no set date this program is set to end.

According to, Rhode Island ranks #5 in the country for states with the highest package theft rates— with about 25% of residents saying this has happened to them.

The average price of those packages stolen in Rhode Island- $80.
