A person has died after being run over during “disorder” in a carpark in the Auckland suburb of Glen Eden.
Armed police are in the area and have blocked off the road, an RNZ reporter at the scene said.
Police were called to a scene of “a disorder taking place” in the carpark in Glenmall Place off Glendale Road at around 12.15pm.
“At one point a vehicle has struck one person and then fled the scene,” acting Detective Inspector Tim Williams, from Waitematā CIB said.
The man died at the scene.
Police were now trying to locate the vehicle “in the wider area”.
“Our enquiries are still in the very early stages in establishing what has exactly occurred in this incident,” Williams said.
Cordons have been put up at the scene and officers will carry out a scene examination.
A witness told RNZ an altercation outside a laundromat led to the hit and run.
Williams said police were aware some members of the public had witnessed the events that unfolded and they were keen to speak to them either at the scene or they could contact police via 105 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
