A man remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was stabbed repeatedly on Pages Road in Bexley on Monday morning.

Bailey Messervy and a 23-year-old woman were arrested and charged after police yesterday raided two Aranui properties on Corhampton Street.

Messervy appeared via videolink in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday charged with wounding intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 7 December.

A woman alleged to have been at the scene of the stabbing faces charges of accessory after the fact.

She is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Detective inspector Nicola Reeves said there were eyewitness sightings of the pair who claimed they heard “raised voices sounding like an argument”.

Police issued a statement on Tuesday appealing for information from the public.

Police were interested in speaking to a man and a woman, seen by an eyewitness leaving the scene in a white car at about 5.10am on the morning of the attack, Reeves said.

The man was seen wearing orange high-vis, a hat and shorts, and the woman a long white dress.

The pair were arrested and charged on Wednesday afternoon.

Police have raided two properties near the site of a stabbing at Bexley Park in Christchurch that left a man critically injured on 14 November.

The homes on Corhampton Street are about 500 metres from the entry of Bexley Park, where the assault was believed to have taken place.

A neighbour who RNZ spoke to following the arrest said they had observed fighting on occasion at one of the properties.
