Vermonters are experiencing the highest rate of food insecurity in two years

Dear Reader,

Food insecurity in the state is higher now than it has been in the past two years, including during peaks of the Covid-19 pandemic. Two in five Vermoners have experienced food insecurity in 2022. And families with children are more than five times more likely to be food insecure than those without.

There are just six days left before Thanksgiving. Our goal is to send 10,000 meals to the Vermont Foodbank. For every member donation, VTDigger is sending 10 meals to the Foodbank. Will you join us?

The issue of food security is becoming more acute as rising costs of food and fuel affect all Vermonters. The purpose of our Annual Fund Drive partnership with the Vermont Foodbank is to help raise funds as well as increase awareness about food insecurity.

“The role that local news plays in connecting people in Vermont to food access is crucial. We are all in this together. Trusted, local news sources deliver timely information so that we all know where to find help when we need it,” says John Sayles, CEO Vermont Foodbank.

If you could use a hand getting the food you need, you are not alone. Visit vtfoodbank.org/gethelp to learn more about accessing food. Consider applying for 3SquaresVT, a program that can help provide funds to purchase groceries.

If you’re in a position to make a supporting donation that does double duty, please give to VTDigger today. Your gift will sustain local journalism and send 10 meals to the Vermont Foodbank. Our goal is to send 10,000 meals by Thanksgiving. Will you help?

Thank you for your valued readership. VTDigger is proud to serve all Vermonters, all year round. We hope you will join us today.

With gratitude,

Libbie Sparadeo
