Visually impaired woman from Warwick and her dog graduate from Southern New Hampshire University

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A visually impaired woman from Warwick and her seeing-eye-dog graduated together from Southern New Hampshire University.

Heather Schey, 48, graduated Saturday with her Bachelor of Arts in Human Services with the faithful companionship of her dog by her side.

Her 8-year-old dog, Asher, wore a cap and gown of his own. His cap read  “I gave her all the answers.”

This was a long journey for Schey, who had started and stopped her path to getting her degree over the years due to accessibility accommodations.

SNHU Associate Vice President Lauren Keane said Schey’s degree was 30 years in the making.

Schey is currently working at an independent living center where she helps other people in need of assistance.
